| The mother who starved her child |
(Scroll down for video) A Haredi mother who deliberately starved her little child by pulling out his feeding tube, received a one year prison sentence suspended after failing to follow a court order, according to court proceedings in Israel.
The Jerusalem District Court ordered the prison sentence on Tuesday. The court also ruled that the woman will be under the supervision of the probation service for two years.
Last September, four years after the woman was caught starving her child, prosecutors appealed to the court to reconsider the plea bargain agreement, which was signed with the mother.
According to the plea bargain agreement signed in 2010, the woman admitted that she disconnected the child’s feeding tube in order to starve him to death. In exchange for pleading guilty, she was sentenced to three years house arrest.
As part of the agreement, the woman promised to seek medical treatment. However, prosecutors argued that the woman did not seek medical treatments, therefore, they asked the judge to cancel the plea bargain agreement.
In 2009, the 2-year-old boy was hospitalized at Hadassah Mount Scopus hospital for being extremely underweight. Tests could not explain the reason behind the weight loss, so doctors installed hidden cameras, which showed the mother pulling out the child’s feeding tube and beating her child.
