The Beit Jimal monastery |
A Roman Catholic Church was firebombed by unknown vandals, according to police reports in Israel.
Jerusalem Police said that several vandals threw a firebomb onto the outer wall of a Catholic monastery in Israel, and that anti-Christian graffiti was also found painted on it.
No damage was caused to the Beit Jimal monastery near the city of Beit Shemesh, and nobody was injured, the spokeswoman, Luba Samri, said.
She said the word "revenge" and "Gentiles perish" was painted in Hebrew on the wall, probably late Tuesday.
"All possible suspects and motives are being investigated, including nationalistic reasons," Samri said.
Jewish ultranationalists are widely believed to have been behind the vandalism of several churches and mosques in Israel, and in the Israeli controlled West Bank in recent years.
However, there have been incidents where Palestinians staged so-called “price tag” attacks in order frame Jewish settlers.
