(Scroll down for video) It was a proud moment for the Jewish people when Israelis won gold and silver medals at the Paralympic Swimming competition in Montreal, Canada.
Israel won its first gold medal at the 2013 IPC World Paralympic Swimming Championships on Friday, when Yitzhak Mamistvalov, 34, outperformed his competitors in the 100 meter freestyle race.
Sports fans had the opportunity to enjoy the 2013 Paralympic Swimming Championships. The competition was held at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, where athletes with disabilities from around the world came to compete for the gold medals. This year, Israelis won one gold medal and two silver medals.
Mamistvalov completed the course in 2 minutes, 23.72 seconds, bringing two medals to Israel, in addition to the silver medal won by Inbal Pezaro on Tuesday at the women’s 200 meter freestyle race.
Mamistvalov was born with cerebral palsy, and uses only his right hand when swimming.
Mamistvalov also competed in the Maccabiah games in Israel. He was voted the International Paralympic Committee's (IPC) Athlete of the Month for April, 2013 by the public.
