(Scroll down for video) Several children were injured after their bus crashed on a New Jersey roadway, according to emergency workers in New Jersey.
The bus, which was carrying campers home from a Jewish camp, collided with a pick-up truck in Old Tappan, New Jersey Monday, sending seven children to local hospitals.
The accident was reported around 4:15 pm when the bus rear-ended the pick-up truck as it made a right turn on Orangeburg Road, Old Tappan Police Chief Thomas Shine said. The bus, which was operated by D&M Tours, carried children home from Camp Shalom when the accident occurred.
The seven children were not seriously injured and were able to get off the bus. The driver of the truck was taken to Englewood Hospital and Medical Center with "moderate to severe" injuries.
"As a precautionary measure, some of the campers were taken to local area hospitals for evaluation. We are offering our full cooperation to the authorities during the investigation," Camp Director Rabbi Yehoshua Gold wrote in an email to parents. "To help ensure that our operations are as safe as possible, campers are transported in school buses driven by professional drivers, who have commercial driver's licenses," he also said.
A representative of D&M Tours based in Paterson, New Jersey, said the bus driver was temporarily suspended while authorities conducted an investigation.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
