Six Jewish teens were arrested, charged and convicted of assault related charges after beating an Arab child as a hate crime, according to court proceedings in Israel.
Now, an Israeli judge has sentenced the six teens to jail.
The six Jewish teenagers were sentenced to prison Monday for their involvement in near-fatal beating of the child last year, one of the most notable hate crimes taken to court in recent years.
The victim's father criticized the sentences as too light.
Israel Police said that 17-year-old Jamal Julani was walking in the center of Jerusalem with his friends when a group of Jewish teenagers pounced on him, shouting anti-Arab slurs as they beat him until he fell unconscious.
The six were arrested and charged with incitement to violence and racially motivated assault.
On Monday, a Jerusalem juvenile court judge, Yakov Tzaban, sentenced three teens to eight 8 months in prison. Another teenager, who beat Julani, entered into a plea bargain agreement and received eight months in jail and a fine of 5,000 shekels or over $1,000.
Two others, who were not accused of involvement in the actual beating, but were part of a "gang" looking for Arab victims, were sentenced to three months and one month respectively.
Because all but one of the nine teens involved in the incident were minors when the attack occurred, their names have not been released to the public.
