Antoren Bell |
(Scroll down for video) A car thief was busted by police after he was unable to drive the car with its manual transmission, according to police reports in Florida.
Police in Escambia County, Florida, said that they arrested Antoren Bell after a robbery attempt was foiled because the car thief could not drive with the vehicle’s manual transmission.
Bell and two other suspects, flagged down a car along a highway in order to be able to steal a car. When one female driver stopped to offer her help, police said Bell pulled a gun, forced her out of the car and got in.
However, Bell wasn’t able to get too far.
The 19-year-old soon realized that the car was a stick shift, and abandoned the vehicle after trying unsuccessfully to operate it, according to a statement released by the Escambia County Sheriff's Office. Bell was later picked up by a police officer and has been charged with vehicle theft, theft and damage to property.
This is not the first time car thieves failed in their mission due to the manual transmission. Two armed robbers attempted to steal Corvette from an Orlando man, but they had trouble getting the car’s engine to start.
"I had to tell them four times to press the clutch, as it is a manual transmission," Randolph Bean, the car owner, said at the time. The robbers then gave up and fled the scene before being arrested by police.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
