The stranded tourists |
(Scroll down for video) A group of tourists vowed never to go on a roller coaster again after they remained stranded on the ride for more than two hours before being rescued, according to video uploaded to the internet.
Now, an investigation was underway to find out what caused the eleven Russian tourists to remain airborne before being rescued by emergency services.
The incident occurred at noon on Friday at the World Joyland Theme Park in Changzhou, Jiangsu Province, eastern China.
The "Skyloop" ride began its journey vertically up the track, but after reaching 30 meters above ground, the thrill ride suddenly and unexpectedly stopped.
The 11 riders were trapped, unable to leave their seats. All they were able to do is stare at the sky.
The Changzhou Wujin Fire Department were alerted immediately.
"We opened the safety bars on the seats manually before taking the tourists down to safety one by one," Tang Xiaorong, deputy director of the Changzhou Wujin Fire Department said.
Two hours later, all eleven tourists were freed. The tourists were all visibly shaken, but no one was hurt.
Xu Yingjie, chairman of the World Joyland Theme Park, said that the roller coaster was up to date in terms of all legal safety checks and was certified until September 19, 2013.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
