A man is behind bars after he faked his own suicide in order to collect insurance, according to court proceedings in Minnesota.

The convicted swindler who faked his own suicide, and left a suicide note and a shotgun in a canoe splashed with his blood, has been sentenced to 12 years and eight months in prison.

Travis Scott of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, hatched the elaborate plan to fake his own death in 2011, in order to avoid imprisonment for an $11.5 million insurance scam.

Scott planned to escape to Canada.

He pulled out some of his wisdom teeth and strands of hair, and took several pints of blood before leaving it in a canoe on Lake Mille Lacs.

Three days later, authorities came across the canoe with a shotgun and the suicide note.

In fact, he had escaped on a plane that was purchased with a fake name, flying from an airport in the middle of the night.

He flew to an airport near Winnipeg, Canada, and rented a hangar under a false name.

He moved to Winnipeg, rented an apartment, bought a cat, computer and a Jeep.

He was caught after purchasing pills at a pharmacy with a false prescription.

(Scroll down for video) A popular basketball coach has resigned after he was accused of biting a female team member in the face because she made a bad play, according to police reports in Missouri.

Leake Academy’s Doyle Wolverton, the coach of one of the best girls basketball teams in the country, has resigned after 38 years on the job, in the wake of allegations that he bit a player in the face during a game on Tuesday, in Marion County, according to Greg Waggoner, a sheriff in Leake County.

Waggoner said his office became involved when the player was taken to a hospital emergency room in Leake County.

"The emergency room had to call the sheriff's office because it was described as an assault," Waggoner said.

"Deputies who took a report, were told that the coach was going off at her about a bad play and bit her on the face during a time out. That's pretty much the extent of it,” the sheriff said.

Waggoner said no charges have been filed against Wolverton.

"Charges should be filed in Marion County, where the attack happened," he said.

Coach Wolverton has resigned. The family said in a statement that they do not want to pursue criminal charges.

The coach has also apologized.

(Scroll down for video) Have no money for beer and smokes? Don’t worry. You can now clean the city streets and receive alcohol and cigarettes as payment.

Amsterdam alcoholics are now being paid to clean the streets with beer, according to a statement released by local officials.

The program began after some alcoholics were causing a nuisance in one of the parks of Amsterdam. Now, through a special program, the crowded city streets are being kept clean.

For a day's work, the alcoholics receive 10 euros or about $13.00, tobacco and five cans of beer. Street cleaners receive two cans of beer in the morning, two for lunch and one after work.

Gerrie Holterman, who heads the project for the Rainbow Foundation, which is funded by the Dutch government and through donations, said that the goal of the project is to keep alcoholics busy and away from fighting in city parks.

"I think I can speak for the group and say that if we do not receive beers we wouldn't be working because we need alcohol to function," Frank, one of the city street cleaners, said.

(Scroll down for video) Members of an airplane cleaning crew were shocked to find more than $1 million in gold bars stashed away in the public restroom, according to customs officials in India.

The hidden cache of gold bars were found on the commercial jet on Tuesday.

A maintenance crew of the aircraft found 24 gold bars in two bags on board a Jet Airways Boeing 737 aircraft, while conducting routine checks at the end of the day in Calcutta, India.

"It was a big surprise," airport director BP Sharma said.

"The gold bars were packed in bags, so the crew did not immediately know what it was. The bags were inspected and was found to be gold," he said.

The plane had traveled from Mumbai, India, to the Thai capital Bangkok, before returning to Kolkata, India, for the night.

Sharma said that the total weight of the bars is 53 pounds.

An investigation revealed that the gold originated in the United Arab Emirates. They were found in a bin in the bathroom.

This is not the first time that gold bars were found on a plane or at the airport, but usually, gold bars are found on people who try to smuggle precious metals inside their luggage.

An investigation was launched, but so far, no arrests have been made.

(Scroll down for video) A family was left devastated after their son was killed while driving his toy car.

The child’s shoes and clothes remained scattered on the street as investigators worked to determine the cause of a fatal accident in Stockton, California.

The incident took place on a quiet street on Sunday, at around 2:30 p.m., while the child was playing outside his home.

The child drove his small foot propelled car onto the road, just when a white Chevy pickup truck came from Truesdale Place and turned onto Hempstead Way.

The man was driving slowly in the neighborhood, but did not see the child when he drove into the street, according to police.

Stockton Police said that the truck drove over the 2-year-old boy, who was playing in the street with his siblings, while one of their parents watched in horror.

"He was on a small car when drove onto the road for some reason and was hit by the truck," Stockton Police Lieutenant Jay Smith said.

The child was taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver, family and friends are trying to come to grips with the tragedy.

“The driver is devastated and in complete shock,” Smith said.

Police have not said if there will be any charges filed against the driver or the parent, who allowed the child to play on the road.

A young man was partying with friends when he broke a wine glass and slit his own throat.

Jake Harris, 21, of Greater Manchester, England, had been out clubbing with friends before they headed back to one of the friends’ apartments, where they continued to party.

Harris took strips of what was believed to be LSD, but was actually proven to be a substance called 251-NBOMe.

At some point after taking the drug, Harris broke a wine glass against a cabinet and stabbed himself several times in the neck.

NBOMe, which causes powerful hallucinations, paranoia and confusion, was legal at the time when Harris took it, but was banned and classified as an illegal substance just two days after Harris died.

Paramedics and police were called to the luxury block near Manchester city center. He was rushed to a hospital.

He was put on life support, but doctors told his family nothing could be done to save his life and the life support machine was switched off the following day.

Investigators were told that Harris, who worked as a lifeguard in Rochdale, had recently found out that his former girlfriend was pregnant with his child.

“We could see that something was bothering him,” his friend Steven Higgins, 27, a club DJ who gave Jake the drug and took some himself, said.

Higgins was arrested after the tragedy, but was not charged because NBOMe was legal at the time.

Jake’s mother Jane said that her son began taking recreational drugs two years ago and he once smashed up her house in a drug-induced rage.

Three months before his death, he was taken to a hospital after his throat became swollen from a drug.

A Walmart store in Ohio, is the center of a nationwide controversy, all because of a food drive for employees.

Collection containers were erected with a sign that said: "please donate food to needy employees."

The shift manager said that this was not the first time the store has asked for donations.

"Walmart should increase their wages so there will be no need for a food drive," one Walmart shopper said.

However, others see nothing wrong with the program.

"I say the more help the better. If people need food, we need to give it to them," another employee said.

Walmart said that the national average hourly rate for a full-time employee is $12.57.

Borough Park store raided by police

(Scroll down for video) A large number of grocery stores were shut down and shop owners are behind bars in a massive food stamp fraud bust carried out by the Department of Homeland Security in New York.

The government assumed that the WIC checks were being used to purchase healthy foods for infants and children.

The Women, Infants and Children nutrition program is funded by the federal government and administered by New York State.

An investigation by federal and state authorities over the past three years discovered a huge food stamp scheme involving WIC checks.

The investigation uncovered that stores in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, bought WIC checks for cash.

"It was a word of mouth kind of thing. You've got to know someone who knows someone who knew someone in the store," officials said in a statement.

Officials said that customers received a percentage of the value of the WIC checks in cash. The store owner pocketed the rest, once the store was reimbursed by the government.

Residents of Borough Park, Brooklyn, said the scam was going on for years in their neighborhood. Instead of WIC checks buying formula or milk, a woman said that people would use the money to buy cigarettes.

Police arrested more than two dozen people in connection with the scam on Wednesday. More arrests are expected. 19 premises were raided and closed.

The charges include welfare fraud, theft of public funds and money laundering.

Police arrested 30 people on Wednesday connected to the food stamp scam.

At a ceremony held in the Gaza Strip, representatives of Neturei Karta were invited in order to pose for pictures with their new ambulance and to meet with Hamas leaders.

“We want to help the children of Gaza, who are under attack by the Israeli enemy for no reason. We also want to improve the relationship between Jews and Arabs, and to tell Gaza civilians that there is a fundamental difference between Judaism and the Zionist movement,” a Neturei Karta official said.

“Jews are compassionate people while the Zionists love to kill innocent women and children,” the official also said.

The Bible labels as fiction in Costco
By: Sarah Weiss

(Scroll down for video) Religious people across the country are angry after they learned that Costco listed the Bible under its fiction section.

California Pastor Caleb Kaltenbach was disturbed when he discovered that the Bible was labeled as fiction, while shopping at the Simi Valley, California Costco.

"All Bibles were labeled as fiction," Kaltenbach said. "It seemed strange to me. When I first saw the book was labeled $14.99 Fiction, I thought it must be some kind of mistake,” Kaltenbach also said.

After he could not get any of the staff in the store to answer his question on the matter he took a picture and tweeted out to his followers, many of whom attend the non-denominational church Discovery in Southern California.

"People are very surprised and upset," Kaltenbach said. "We're supposed to be living in an era of tolerance, but Costco does not seem too tolerant. If they do not believe in the Bible, that's fine, but at least label it as religion as some libraries do,” he said.

An Israeli restaurant followed the lead of a Brooklyn, New York restaurant, by offering its diners a 50 percent discount if they are willing to shut off their cellphones.

The owner of a restaurant in an Arab village outside Jerusalem, said he is on a mission to save the dining culture by offering diners to turn off their cellphones and get a discount.

Jawdat Ibrahim said that smartphones have destroyed the modern dining experience. He expects that the generous discount will bring back an experience that was about company, conversation and appreciating food, instead of surfing, texting or talking to the office.

"I'm going to change something. It might be something small, but maybe somehow I will be changing the culture of eating," Ibrahim, 49, said.

Ibrahim is the owner of Abu Ghosh, a restaurant he named after his hometown located about 10 kilometers or six miles outside of Jerusalem. The city is known as a symbol of coexistence between Arabs and Jews, and the restaurant serves creamy hummus and grilled meat, which are popular with Arabs and Jewish visitors alike.

Ibrahim briefly moved to the United States, nearly thirty years ago, but after winning a $23 million lottery jackpot in Illinois, he quickly returned and opened the restaurant.

As we reported earlier, do you want to enjoy a moment of peace and quiet while eating in New York? Now you can.

Seems like many people are embracing the revolutionary idea of eating in total quite at a restaurant.

The “Eat Restaurant” has implemented a “no speaking night” where patrons eat in total quite.

The restaurant is located in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. It serves a four-course meal of locally grown organic food, but does not allow any chit-chat.

Eat Restaurant’s Chef Nicholas Nauman said he was inspired to start the no speaking rule after spending time with Buddhist monks in India.

“I spent time in a Buddhist monastery in India, when I was in college and we had silent breakfast every day,” Nauman said. He said that silence allows customers the opportunity to enjoy their food.

“We ask people to turn off their phones and to remain silent for the entire meal,” restaurant owner Jordan Colon said.
People communicate via hand gesture or facial expression.

The restaurant fills up fast during the no speak meals. The price for the 4 courses meal is $40.

Yafit Abraham, 34, of Ashdod, collapsed on Ha’admor Mibelz Street and quickly fell into a coma.

Magen David Adom Lachish paramedics, who arrived at the scene, performed CPR on the woman, and transported her to Barzilai Hospital in critical condition where she later died.

Doctors at the hospital said that the woman died after suffering from a blocked lung artery.

A 10-year-old girl is upset that her mother’s former boyfriend kept her dog and won't return it.

A lawsuit was filed on behalf of the child of Detroit, Michigan, in an attempt to get her Poodle back from her mother's former boyfriend.

Hannah Wise of Farmington Hills, who is represented by attorney Robert Zawideh, said in a lawsuit that her mother’s former boyfriend, Mitchell Rechter, did not return her dog, named Mystery, after the girl and her mother moved out from his home.

Hannah's claim is part of a lawsuit filed by her mother, Adrienne Lenhoff.

In the lawsuit, Lenhoff said she was in a relationship with Rechter for five years, and he led her to believe that he would marry her and provide her with a stable home for Hannah.

However, earlier this year, Lenhoff learned that Rechter was seeing someone else, leading her to moved out of his apartment located in West Bloomfield.

Rechter’s attorney, Jonathan Jones, said in court documents that Hannah gave him the dog.

"The plaintiff gave the dog to the defendant to take care of it. She took another dog with her the day she left," Rechter wrote in court documents.

Besides the dog, Lenhoff said that Rechter kept thousands of dollars worth of items including rings, golf equipment, boots and her ketubah, which is a Jewish wedding license from her first marriage that she said is worth $20,000.

She also wrote in court document that Rechter borrowed $20,000 from her in order to go on trips to places including Boston, Massachusetts, and Mexico.

(Scroll down for video) An ultra-Orthodox Jewish bride and groom were seen on video dancing in front of many wedding guests.

The video was uploaded to YouTube by user Rivki Lemmer, who labeled the video “Yiddy and Ruchy's dance.”

The dance was part of the couple’s “Mitzva Tantz.”

The Hebrew and Yiddish word Mitzva means commandment, and the Yiddish word tantz means dance.

However, the Mitzvah Tantz dance is a Hasidic custom and not a commanded written in the Torah.

During the Mitzvah Tantz, Hasidic men dance with the bride.

It is performed after the wedding party for friends and family.

Although the Mitzvah Tantz is performed at every Hasidic wedding, this one was different.

Usually, the atmosphere during the Mitzvah Tantz is serious.

However, Yiddy and Ruchy made their occasion happy and joyous as they danced happily while holding hands.

The two appeared to be in love and comfortable with each other.

Hasidic Jews meet their brides for just a few minutes before deciding to get married.

Hasidic fiances and fiancees do not speak to one another during the engagement, therefore, they don’t know one another at the wedding.

During the Mitzva Tantz, the bride, her female family members and female friends, along with the women of the groom's family are seated in the men's section, while the women watch as the men dance with the bride.

Men from both, the bride and groom’s family get a chance to dance with the bride.

The bride and the groom dance with each other as the Mitzva Tantz ceremony ends.

(Scroll down for video) A young and sexy model will try to sell her virginity for the second time after she was “left with a bad taste in her mouth” the first time around.

The Brazilian model has announced her plans to auction off her virginity to the highest bidder.

Catarina Migliorini, 21, became famous around the world when she agreed to sell her virginity to a Japanese millionaire, known as Natsu, for $780,000.

The model claims that she never received the money, and insists that she never had sex.

The hot model claims that she is still a virgin at age 21.

Migliorini accused Australian filmmaker Justin Sisel of falsifying the first auction as part of an advertisement for his own documentary called Virgins Wanted.

This time, she won't be so trusting someone else. She will sell her virginity by herself through her website VirginsWanted2.com.

Many people criticized the model for selling her virginity, calling her a prostitute, but she defended herself by saying “If you're going to do it once in your life, then you are not a prostitute, just like if you take one incredible photograph does not automatically make you a photographer."

We will have to wait and see how she defends herself the second time around.
