Obie recovering after surgery |
(Scroll down for video) A fat dog who lost 40 pounds after going on a strict diet had 2 pounds of loose skin removed through surgery this week, according to a statement released by the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin in Tualatin, Oregon.
Obie, the former obese dachshund is recovering in the Emergency Veterinary Clinic of Tualatin after surgery to remove more than two pounds of loose skin. The skin was what was left of the 40 pounds it lost in eight months of a weight loss diet.
Owner Nora Vanatta said the surgery went well. She hoped to bring him home soon after an overnight stay in the clinic for surgery aftercare.
Obie began his weight loss journey weighing 77 pounds. Before surgery Tuesday, the dog weighed 37 pounds, four ounces.
"We have not weighed the dog since the surgery, but it lost 2 and a half pounds of skin," Nora said. "So it should weigh around 35 pounds now. I imagine its healthy weight to be between 28 and 30 pounds," Nora added.
“I have to say that the dog came a long way. It is amazing how good the dog looks, now, after the weight loss program. I think people can learn from the dog that it can be done,” Amy Martin, 19 of Nashua, New Hampshire told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the dog’s weight loss.
Many people across the country have been following the battle of the bulge. Nora also created a Facebook page for Obie.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
