| Rocket in Eilat fired from Egypt |
(Scroll down for video) Terrorists fired several rockets from Egypt that hit Israel and Jordan, according to Israeli military officials and eyewitnesses.
Two rockets which were fired from the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt reached the outskirts of the Red Sea resort city of Eilat in southern Israel on Wednesday, causing no casualties or damage, Israeli police said.
Residents heard two explosions and emergency sirens sounded in the city. Police found the remains of a rocket near a neighborhood under construction, and a second in an open area, according to residents and police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld. The local Eilat airport was closed.
An Iron Dome missile defense system that was recently placed in the Eilat was not active to intercept incoming missiles, the military said.
A group inspired by al-Qaeda, the Mujahideen Shura Council, claimed responsibility for the attack on jihadi websites, saying it had fired two Grad rockets at Eilat. The group has also claimed responsibility for previous rocket attacks on Israel from the Gaza Strip and for cross-border attacks in Sinai.
“Such attacks are unacceptable. Israeli men, women and children do not need to live in fear of constant rocket attacks. The Israeli military should severely punish the terorists behind these attacks,” Rachaeli Leventhol, 30, of Eilat, Israel told YourJewishNews.com after the attacks.
Two rockets also exploded in Jordan, according to press reports.
