On Tuesday morning, President Shimon Peres launched the main celebration of Independence Day, in Jerusalem.

The annual event opened with an helicopter combat air show, then Peres along with Israeli army chief and Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz honored 120 outstanding service personnel. After that, began the main show "Songs of Independence with the President," which was held at the presidential residence in Jerusalem. Peres sang "I Wish" together with Keren Peles.

After Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sang "Prayer" with Idan Amedi. The Defense Minister, Moshe Yaalon showed his musical skills singing with Hagit Yaso and Chief of Staff Gantz performed a duet with Sharon Kiddushin.

“I love the fact that the leaders of Israel can let loose and sing for the Israeli people. Every year I make sure to listen to them sing in honor of the Independence Holiday,” Ethel Crum 19, of Tel Aviv, Israel told YourJewishNews.com.

Also in a speech, President Shimon Peres said Israel's enemies for decades have tried to destroy the Jewish state. He said that Israel would defend itself against the dangers of Hezbollah and Hamas militants, and called one of the leaders of Iran "madness".

Israeli military chief Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, said that Israel's military will continue to protect Israelis until "the day when peace comes."

The festivities, which began Monday night, comes just a day after the country mourned those who died during the wars.
