There is a hot new trend in jewelry these days and it is not made from a precious metals or rare stones, according to press reports in the United States.

There are some mothers who are constantly looking for more tangible reminders of their children. Now, moms who are looking for a little something to remember their breast feeding experience can own jewelry made from their own breast milk.

An online marketplace for mothers has a couple of different options for mothers who want to preserve their milk in the form of a medallion or bracelet.

A couple of suppliers, who are both mothers, said in interviews that they came up with the idea while looking for unusual methods to memorialize their special bonds with their babies through breastfeeding.

Both moms however, have not revealed the secret prescriptions for the processing of the breast milk, which is covered with a clear varnish or resin after it is plasticized or dehydrated, forming a clay-like substance which hardens over time.

Nursing mothers have two options. They can buy a kit and manufacture their own jewelry with their own breast milk, or they can send their milk to the designer jewelry manufacturer who will plasticize the breast milk and then incorporate it into a pendant for the mom to carry.

“I think this is a gross idea. I would never wear body fluid of any kind as jewelry,” Arlene Dubose, 20, a mother of a one-year-old child in Little Rock, Arkansas told YourJewishNews.com after learning about breast milk jewelry.

However, not everyone agreed with Dubose. “I think it is a wonderful idea. The breast milk feeding experience is a wonderful part of the mother-child experience. It is the perfect moment that I would love to memorialize forever and now there is a perfect way to do it,” Minnie Felix, 23, a mother of two children in Cheyenne, Wyoming told YourJewishNews.com.

The designers of the new fashion trend said that they have already sold over 200 units since they began.
