(Scroll down for video) In a terrible tragic accident, a man cut off both his daughter’s feet with his lawn mower when reversing the machine inside his garage, according to press reports in Florida.
The Tampa Bay, Florida area man accidentally ran over his 2-year-old daughter while operating the lawn mower.
The Sheriff's Office of Pinellas County reported that the blades cut both her feet at the ankles. Her left hand was injured but intact.
She was taken to Tampa General Hospital Wednesday night. Her condition was not available Thursday.
Authorities said 47-year-old Jeremiah Nugent was mowing the lawn at his Palm Harbor home Wednesday. He was about to park the tractor in the garage when he thought his wife, 31, Nicole Nugent, was alerting him that he was about to go over something.
He responded by putting the tractor in reverse, running over his daughter, Ireland. The man immediately turned off the mower, and the woman called 911.
“This is very tragic. Parents try to raise their child to the best of their abilities and when something like this happens, where they hurt their own child, it is very hurtful,” Ralp Ryder, 59, of Tampa Bay, Florida told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the accident.
Police said today that it was not be possible reattach her legs, but her mother told a group of reporters that her neighbors have joined together and have begun to raise funds in order to be able to pay for prosthetics for Ireland, for the rest of her life.
