(Scroll down for video) Police are looking to arrest and charge a man with theft related charges after stealing a large excavator in order to use it to carry away an ATM, according to police reports in North Carolina.
Police in North Carolina are looking for the man who they say stole the excavator from a construction site and used it to carry away the 2000-pound ATM.
According to Winston-Salem police, someone stole the excavator Monday morning and drove about 200 feet to the ATM. He said the suspect used the claw of the excavator to demolish the ATM kiosk located at a credit union, then picked up the machine and placed it into a van. It is believed that a second vehicle was involved in the robbery.
Police said video surveillance revealed that a black Crown Victoria with tinted windows was involved, and that the suspect may be shorter in stature because of the way he had to reach for the steering wheel.
“This was quite a brazen robbery. The man behind the robbery did not even care to the attention this will draw to his act with stealing a large excavator. I hope that the public will help police quickly track down the suspect and get him off the street,” Willie Baker, 26, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina told YourJewishNews.com after reading about the incident.
The suspect remained at large Monday night. This is not the first time a construction machine was stolen in order to use it to steal an ATM.
