The cult members of Lev Tahor, left behind thousands of dollars in unpaid bills before fleeing the justice system to Ontario, Canada.
Despite receiving millions of dollars in charity donations during the past ten years, the ultra-Orthodox Jewish group left a legacy of bad checks, abandoned bills and unpaid taxes when they fled Quebec for Ontario, last month.
Lev Tahor faces seven lawsuits, in which the group is accused of leaving thousands of dollars in unpaid bills for such things as legal fees, work done for buildings, and taxes.
One lawsuit against the group originated when a senior member Lev Tahor, Mayer Rosner, hired a company in 2009, to install an air conditioning system, according to the statement of claim in that case.
The final bill was $5,089.53 and Rosner gave three post dated checks. Two of those checks bounced when they were deposited in the bank, and one of the replacement checks bounced as well.
Months later, Lev Tahor paid $4,100 to the account, but skipped out on the remaining $1,000 which a judge ordered Rosner to pay.
The cult fled after a judge ordered that the children be sent to foster care.
