Father Gabriel Nadaf with Netanyahu |
The teen son of a popular Arab Christian leader was beaten with a baseball bat because of his support for joining the Israeli military, according to police reports in Israel.
The son of Father Gabriel Nadaf, a Greek Orthodox priest who is the leading advocate of Christian enlistment in the Israel Defense Forces, was attacked over the weekend.
Father Nadaf said that his pro-IDF stance led to the attack on his son.
His 17-year-old son was walking down a street when a political activist, 21, belonging to an opposing group, began screaming at him and hit him with a baseball bat. The teen was taken to a local hospital.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack and promised to protect anyone who wants to defend Israel.
"This is very worrying, I learned that there were physical attacks by extremists against Christians, Christian Arabs who want to join the army and want to be part of the State of Israel. I will not tolerate this," Netanyahu said about Sunday's attack.
