(Scroll down for video) A U.S. citizen was killed by his cellmate, who is an illegal immigrant, a few hours after arriving in prison.
At first, authorities in Arizona, thought the man died during a fight in prison.
However, his cellmate confessed that he killed Michael Patrick McNaughton, 55, to ensure that he stays in the United States, and does not get deported back to Mexico.
McNaughton was brought to prison on Friday, for an alleged sex crimes. On Saturday morning, McNaughton was viciously killed by 43-year-old Roberto Venegas-Fernandez.
Venegas-Fernandez choked his cellmate to death. He then stomped on the victim’s head and bit him in the groin so he could remain in prison, according to a Pinal County Sheriff's Office.
Venegas-Fernandez, who is from Mexico, was convicted of committing a sex crime in the United States.
“He was approaching his release date and allegedly killed McNaughton so he wouldn't be sent back to Mexico,” Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu said.
When questioned by police, Fernandez told detectives that he “liked three meals a day.”
Prison guards were very kind to him and he was afraid that after his release he will be deported to Mexico. He confessed to killing McNaughton to make sure he was not going to be deported back to Mexico.
Now, he is facing first degree murder charges.
