(Scroll down for video) A man in Washington D.C., was arrested for fraud after he was seen on video placing a banana peel in an elevator before “falling on it’.
Maurice Owens, 42, of District Heights, sued after he slipped on a banana peel at the Potomac Avenue Metro Station in Washington D.C.
He sued the transit agency for $15,000, part of which was for his $4,500 chiropractor bill.
However, a surveillance video, which was used as evidence against him in court, showed that Owens planned the whole incident.
The video showed Owens walking into the clean and empty elevator about 9:00 p.m.
Although the video does not clearly show Owens throwing the peel on the floor you can see the movements with the hands and pockets.
Then, when he stepped away from the door and still inside the elevator, the banana peel, which was not there before, suddenly appeared on the floor.
Perhaps the most incriminating piece of footage is where Owens was seen looking for a security camera, and when he looked directly at the camera, he seemed to be nervous.
When the doors opened, Owens made sure to step directly onto the peel and falling forward, before quickly getting up.
Thanks to this video, his lawsuit was dismissed.
He was arrested and charged with fraud in the second degree.
