(Scroll down for video) A boy was arrested and will be charged with leaving the scene of an accident after allegedly killing an elderly man with his car in a hit and run incident, according to police reports in Israel.
Rishon Lezion Police said that they arrested a local 17-year-old boy on Tuesday, on suspicion of killing Meyer Solomon, 83, and fleeing the scene while abandoning the victim.
The suspect was questioned for several hours along with his father, who was in the vehicle at the time of the incident, and also fled from the scene.
The arrest was made possible after a family member told police about the suspect.
Solomon led the Magen David synagogue, and he was killed while crossing a street near the synagogue on his way to morning prayers.
As we reported earlier, an elderly man is dead after being the victim of a hit and run incident on his way to synagogue for his daily morning services, according to rescue workers in Israel.
Magen David Adom said that an 83-year-old man was killed on Monday, in a hit and run incident in Rishon Lezion, while on his way to morning prayers at his local synagogue.
Rescue workers said that they received a call about 5:30 a.m., about an old man lying injured and unconscious on Mordei Haghettoes Street.
Paramedics who arrived at the scene, desperately tried to save the man’s life, but were unsuccessful. The man was declared dead at the scene.
Police launched an investigation into the case, and quickly determined that the old man, Meyer Solomon, was injured in a hit and run while crossing the street at a crosswalk on his way to the synagogue.
Police said that they recovered parts of the vehicle and the driver will be caught soon.
Police also said that the driver traveled at a high speed when he slammed into the old man. The old man was launched into the air from the strong impact.
Police officials called on the driver to surrender to police.
