Police arrested a yeshiva student while he was studying with his rabbi on suspicion of torching vehicles belonging to Arabs, according to police reports.
Migdal Haemek Police entered the yeshiva on Monday, in order to arrest the teen boy after being accused of setting Arab vehicles on fire as a hate crime.
The stunned student, who was arrested in front his friends and rabbi, was released from custody after a few hours.
Police said that the teen burned vehicles belonging to Arab residents about six months ago.
This was not the first time that yeshiva students were accused of vandalizing vehicles belonging to Arabs.
As we reported earlier, police are promising to crack down on Haredim after they were seen on video stoning an Arab man, who was traveling in his vehicle on Bar Ilan Street in Jerusalem, Israel.
Hundreds of Haredim, who were protesting the arrest of Rabbi Yoram Abergel, were seen throwing stones in the direction of passing cars. The men attacked cars that were driven by Arabs.
According to a witness at the scene, the group of Haredi men attacked several Arab cars while cursing and laughing at them.
As a result of stone throwing, the cars’ windshields were destroyed, prompting the drivers to flee from the scene on foot.
Once the Arab men left the scene, many Haredim started to smash the cars.
"They just destroyed the cars. The police rushed to the intersection and dispersed the protesters," a witness at the scene said.
Jerusalem Police confirmed that during the riots protesters threw stones in the direction of passing cars.
Arab drivers fled on foot, and they were forced to tow the vehicles. Police said that they have launched an investigation into the incident.
Rabbi Abergel is suspected of involvement in an extortion plot during the elections of the city of Netivot. The rabbi's followers have protested his arrest in several locations across the country in recent days.
