(Scroll down for video) A woman surprised her boyfriend and showed up to the hunting ground, but she was shot by her boyfriend.

Tyler Matthew Webb, 23, shot his girlfriend, and claimed that he thought she was a deer.

Webb has been arrested after shooting his girlfriend, Audrey Mayo, 24 , in the leg when she surprised him while hunting.

The couple was on the roof of Webb’s house when he saw a herd of deer traveling through the woods, and decided to hunt them.

Mayo originally planned to stay behind, but changed her mind after her boyfriend left.

When Webb heard the leaves crunching in the woods, he thought it was a deer and shot it, but it turned out to be his girlfriend rather than a deer.

Hearing her screams, Webb ran to her aid. He took off his shirt and wrapped it around the lower part of the leg where she was bleeding. He then called rescue workers.

When officers arrived, Mayo had fainted and was taken to a hospital, where she is in critical but stable condition.

Webb has been charged with firing a gun within 150 feet of a road.

He faces several other charges, including misuse of a firearm, hunting license violations, and not wearing orange.

The Department of Natural Resources of Georgia, will handle the hunting related case.

Captain Johnny Johnson, a regional DNR supervisor, said that if Mayo and Webb would have worn the appropriate orange-colored clothing the accident probably would not have happened.

Police are awaiting a toxicology report to determine if he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he shot his girlfriend.
