A woman was arrested and charged with theft related charges after she was caught with a bag full of stolen meatballs, according to press reports in New York.

The female housekeeper at the U.S. Military Academy could go to military prison after she allegedly stole the bag of frozen meatballs at the West Point, New York, military dining hall.

In the beginning of this year, civilian supervisors at the military base caught Estelle Casimir, 56, carrying a garbage bag in the dining section she was not assigned to. When she revealed that stolen meatballs, meant for dinner that night, the military police arrested her and charged her with theft and possession of stolen property, both federal charges.

Casimir, of Newburgh, New York, pleaded not guilty during her arraignment. She argued that "she found the bag in a dumpster," and was on her way to throw them away.

Watson services, the food services company of West Point, suspended Casimir, pending the outcome of the case. Court documents said she has since been looking for cleaning work.

The 56-year-old will return to court next month. If convicted, the maximum penalty is one year in jail and a maximum fine of $1,000.00 for each count.
