(Scroll down for video) A girl was rushed to a hospital after she was burned because she did not allow a man to rape her.
The 16-year-old of Kairana Town in Shamli district in India, was set on fire by her neighbor after she resisted his attempts of rape.
After setting the girl on fire, the 22-year-old suspect, who was identified as Surender Kashyap, attempted to commit suicide by consuming poison.
On Monday night, Kashyap went to the girl’s house when she was alone and tried to rape her. When the girl resisted, he doused her with kerosene and set her on fire, Deputy Superintendent of Police CP Singh said.
The teen was rushed to a local hospital with burns to 80 percent of her body.
Despite the doctors’ desperate attempt to save her they were unable to do so.
The teen died at the hospital during treatment, Singh said.
Kashyap, who had consumed poison after the incident, has been admitted to the hospital.
