African immigrants enjoy a day at a Tel Aviv park |
A man was arrested and charged with attempted rape related charges after breaking into a Tel Aviv home and attempting to rape a little girl sleeping in her bed at knifepoint, according to court proceedings in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The man, who was identified as a Sudanese immigrant, has been charged with several crimes in connection with the attempted rape of the young child at her home south of Tel Aviv.
Mohammed Suleiman Ahmed, 22, was charged Sunday with attempted rape of a child under 14-years-old, as well as assault, aggravated assault causing injury, threats of violence, theft and burglary with criminal intent.
Ahmed entered the family home at 5:00 am in the beginning of this month and began removing items from the home. He then took a knife and went into the children's room and tried to rape a girl, who was identified by police as an 8-year-old, at knifepoint and threatened the girl's brother as well.
The children’s mother heard the cries of the girl on an intercom device and came to save her daughter, but was stabbed by the attacker. The attack ended when the father of the family heard his wife screaming, rushed to help, and managed to overpower the suspect.
The attack on the girl occurred just days after the attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl in the stairwell of her building and the rape of a 30-year-old African woman.
The Israeli government has responded to the wave of violent crimes in southern Tel Aviv by stationing a new police unit in the area.
