A little girl died after she fell into a mikvah, or a Jewish ritual bath, during the holiday of Yom Kippur, according to emergency workers in Israel.
Ichud Hatzalah Bnei Brak said that the incident occurred at 12:00 pm. The 4-year-old girl drowned in a mikvah located on Neufeld Street in Bnei Brak.
Paramedics and volunteers of Ichud Hatzalah administered first aid to the girl at the scene. The girl was transported by a Mobile Intensive Care Unit to a local hospital where she was declared dead.
“When I arrived at the scene I saw a 4-year-old girl, who had no pulse and was not breathing. Witnesses at the scene told me that the girl drowned in the mikvah. I administered advanced and extended resuscitation techniques, but the girl did not respond. After some time, a Mobile Intensive Care Unit from Magen David Adom took the child to Schneider Hospital. The hospital determined the toddler's death," Yechiel Stiglitz, a senior paramedic of Dan Rescue, said.
"The girl gained access to the mikvah after it remained unlocked from the previous day. The girl along with her siblings, began playing inside the facility when the 4-year-old slipped into the water. Her siblings ran outside and alerted a passerby to rescue the girl from the water. The man called rescue workers," Nisim Hest of Ichud Hatzalah said.
A CT Scan and other tests will be performed determine the cause of death and rule out other causes.
