Man being airlifted via helicopter illustration |
A helicopter that was sent to rescue a hunter, ended up killing him.
A family was left devastated by the untimely death of the man and they want answers.
A thorough investigation has been launched in Victoria, Australia, after Robert Davis, 68, from Sydney, fell to his death while being rescued after suffering from a broken ankle.
Davis, who is an avid hunter, was trekking with his friend near Lake Eildon, when he fell into a bush and broke his ankle. He was unable to move so his friend called for help.
A paramedic helicopter came to rescue Davis. One rescue worker was lowered down to attach Davis to a harness. When he was secured to the harness they were both raised to the waiting helicopter.
But when Davis was being helped in through the helicopter door he fell about 100 feet to the ground.
The paramedic was immediately lowered back down, but Davis could not be resuscitated. The injuries from the fall led to his death.
Police, ambulance and government officials, have all launched their own investigation into what went wrong. Some suggest that Davis’ weight and size might have played a big part in his tragic death. Davis weighed 264 pounds.
