A postal worker was arrested after stealing fake money, which was mailed to the U.S. Secret Service.

Richard Houghtallen, 45, of South Carolina, who worked at the Dutch Fork Post Office, was arrested on Thursday afternoon after taking fake money from an envelope, which was addressed to the U.S. Secret Service.

Houghtallen was caught after investigators in Richland County said they got a call that someone was trying to use counterfeit money at a Dunkin’ Donuts location.

The counterfeit money was traced back to Houghtallen. After police determined that the money was once in his possession they went to arrest him.

A search warrant was executed at the residence of Houghtallen and deputies found $10,000 in counterfeit money.

Houghtallen took the money from an envelope at the post office. The envelope came from a local bank, which sent the counterfeit bills to be investigated by the U.S. Secret Service.

Houghtallen was charged with breach of trust after he intercepted counterfeit money at his work. He has been booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
