(Scroll down for video) A teacher is being slammed after allegedly taping one of the school students to a chair as a punishment, according to school officials in Arizona.

The second grade teacher in Tucson, has been removed from class and an investigation is underway amid accusations that a young girl was taped to her chair as punishment, school officials said Wednesday.

"We take this very seriously. Obviously, this type of behavior is not appropriate or acceptable, and not part of any district protocol," Tucson Unified School District spokesperson Cara Rene said. "If it is proven that this conduct occurred, that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken," she said.

Rene refused to give details pending the outcome of the investigation of the school. The school district has not released the name of the teacher.

The incident was first reported earlier this week.
The girl's mother, Maria Vasquez, was angry and said her daughter suffers from hyperactivity disorder and attention deficit disorder.

"She likes to be happy, and the teacher tied her to a chair," Vasquez said. "Whether it was it was not right,” she said.
Vasquez said her that the teacher taped her daughter to the chair after becoming upset because the girl got up to sharpen her pencil too many times last week at Hollinger Elementary School.

Vasquez has reported the incident to the police in Tucson. Police Sergeant Chris Widmer said an investigation is ongoing.
