Aaron Roland and Joscilin Smith |
(Scroll down for video) A spiteful woman tried to burn her husband by spilling a pot of boiling water on him, but instead, most of the water landed on her 4-year-old son.
The parents, Aaron Roland and Joscilin Smith, of Arizona, were arrested after they denied their son appropriate treatment after he was burned.
The couple feared that Child Protective Services will take away their children if they found out how the boy was burned. Concerned neighbors eventually called CPS.
Mesa Police were sent to the house in order to check on the welfare of the children. The couple initially told police that the child was with a family member.
Police, who were on the scene, did not believe them and went looking for the child. They found the boy hiding in a bedroom closet. Police noted that the boy had nasty burns on his shoulder back, leg, and arm.
After police found the boy hiding in the closet, the couple admitted that he was burned two weeks ago.
The couple explained that they had been arguing and Smith threw a pot of boiling water at her husband, but mistakenly hit the child.
Instead of taking the child to a hospital, they bought creams and bandages, and took care of the wounds themselves.
Ironically, the father, who also suffered some burns, did seek medical attention.
"The father had gone to a doctor immediately, however, the parents feared they might lose their children if they seek medical attention for the child," Police Sergeant Tony Landato said.
The couple has seven children between the ages of 1 and 10-years-old and they had several run-ins with CPS in Arizona and Wisconsin.
The 4-year-old was taken to a hospital where he is being treated for second degree burns. He and his siblings are now in custody of CPS.
Roland was booked into jail on child abuse while Smith was charged with aggravated assault and child abuse.CBS 5 - KPHO
