A head of a Jerusalem yeshiva tragically died just a few minutes after his son’s engagement party ended, according to hospital officials.
Rabbi Yeshaya Shipman, 57, of the Ramat Shlomo neighborhood of Jerusalem, died yesterday after suffering from a serious illness in recent months.
Shipman, is the son-in-law of Rabbi Simcha Hacohen Kook, Chief Rabbi of Rehovot. He died just a half an hour after his son’s engagement party.
Shipman was born in Israel and served as the kollel head in the neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo. He also served as the yeshiva head of Yeshivas Sheiris Yaakov in the Har Nof neighborhood of Jerusalem. According to his students, Shipman collected funds in order to pay the monthly salaries given to those who studied in his kollel.
Shipman also authored the book Shiras Levi, a commentary on the Jewish law-book Shulchan Aruch.
He is survived by his wife Esther, and nine children.
The funeral was held today at his home located at 30 Hazon Ish Street in Ramat Shlomo in Jerusalem. He was buried in the Har Hamenuchot cemetery. The family is mourning the shiva period at his home in Ramat Shlomo.
