A woman was arrested, charged and convicted of manslaughter related charges after she killed her friend after her friend spilled some milk, according to court proceedings in New York.
Now, the woman has received a 15 year jail sentence.
Brooklyn prosecutors said that a young woman pleaded guilty to manslaughter after killing her good friend literally over spilled milk. She was originally charged with second degree murder and faced a possible life sentence.
Kayla Henriques, 20, pleaded guilty on Wednesday and will spend 15 years behind bars for the stabbing death of Kamisha Richards, 22, after the two feuded on Facebook and through text messages.
"It was a tragedy," defense attorney Frederick Spiegel said.
It all began when Richards asked Henriques to give her $20 that she had lent her to buy supplies for her one-year-old child Alex. When she refused, she threw away the baby’s milk.
"So they started arguing," Detective Christopher Obdyke, who had questioned the accused, said in court. "They also began to send text messages back and forth while they were in the same apartment," he said.
The argument later intensified.
"She grabbed scissors, so I ran to the kitchen and grabbed a knife," Henriques wrote in her confession. "She swung at me, so I swung back. She kept screaming ‘that b**** stabbed me,’” she also wrote.
Richards later died from a single stab wound.
The two were good friends.
The young women were also exchanging threatening messages on Facebook in the days before the incident.
Prosecutors said the plea agreement was approved by the family of the victim.
