Prosecutors demand remand for ultra-Orthodox Jewish man who burned over 100 garbage containers

An ultra-Orthodox Jewish man was arrested and charged with arson related charges after he burned over one hundred garbage containers in Elad, Israel, according to court proceedings.

Now, prosecutors demanded of a Petach Tikva Magistrate’s Court to remand Israel Yitzhak Donat, 37, of Elad, after being charged with seven counts of burning trash cans around the city. Donat allegedly deliberately burned over one hundred garbage containers.

The police investigation uncovered that the Elad municipality suffered an enormous amount of damage from Donat’s actions as each container cost the city about 1,400 shekels.

According to the indictment, Donat intentionally burned plastic trash cans around the city of Elad. The defendant used boxes and matched to light the fire. Prosecutors said that Donat would go out at night and light garbage containers for no apparent reason.

"The conduct of the defendant indicates beyond any doubt that he is a dangerous man, who cannot be allowed in public,” the prosecutor told the court.

As we reported earlier, a man was arrested and charged with arson related charges after he burned more than 100 garbage containers, according to police reports in Israel.

Rosh HaAyin Police said that a 36-year-old Elad resident was arrested this morning on suspicion of igniting 100 dumpsters over a period of several months.

The arrest came at the conclusion of a difficult and intense investigation that lasted several weeks.
Since March, a wave of garbage bin fires have been reported in the city of Elad. Ronen Saban, an Elad city police commander said that intelligence led to finding the serial arsonist behind the fires.

One garbage bin fire burned two vehicles parked near it. Most of the trash cans were set on fire during the night. Police said that some trash cans were set on fire when the suspect made ​​his way to the local synagogue.
The suspect, a married man with children, admitted to the attacks. Police asked a judge to detain the suspect.

"After several weeks of hard work by Rosh HaAyin police detectives and vigorous intelligence activity, the suspect was arrested in the early morning, and tomorrow he will be brought to court where we will demand the extension of his arrest," Saban also said.

The city of Elad is home to a large population of ultra-Orthodox Jews.
