Two teens were arrested and charged with arson related charges after they set a police station on fire, according to police reports in Canada.
St. Theresa Point Police said that two teenagers in a remote Manitoba, Canada community set fire to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police station in a plan to be arrested and taken to a juvenile jail in Winnipeg so they could visit their friend, who is also facing arson charges.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers said that a gang of young people have been going on crime sprees on Sunday, dubbing the ritual "Bad Ass Sunday.”
The boys, 13 and 14-years-old, were arrested after what is known locally as the justice building caught fire and was destroyed in the early morning.
The boys allegedly picked the lock of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police station with a clip and then used a lighter to set paper on fire.
The younger child, who had no history or other pending charges, admitted the fire was an attempt to leave the community and the Youth Centre of Manitoba.
Prosecutor Courtney St. Croix argued against bail for the younger teen, saying: "Royal Canadian Mounted Police in the area are particularly concerned that a group of young people seem to have established some kind of a gang."
"If they were willing to set fire to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police station in order to hang out with their friend, I'm worried about what else they will be willing to do to get back to jail," St. Croix said.
Judge Rocky Pollack, legally bound by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, gave the boy his freedom.
A Royal Canadian Mounted Police spokesperson could not provide a complete damage estimate, but said the damage to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police building totaled about $20,000.
The friend of the two teens is already in jail for his alleged involvement in burning a Royal Canadian Mounted Police truck, supposedly as part of Bad Ass Sunday.
