(Scroll down for video) A Florida police officer was punished after he brought some Skittles and tea to work, according to a statement released by Florida Police.
A senior Brevard County sheriff faces a reprimand for his handling of the George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin incident.
Corporal Chris Wood told his supervisors that he was trying to send a message when he brought Arizona iced tea and a bag of Skittles to the Brevard County Jail on Saturday morning.
He told the supervisors that he was trying to send a message about professionalism, but the message was lost in translation.
In the 10 years with the Sheriff's Office, Wood has never had any disciplinary action taken against him until this incident.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said Wood made a bad choice, but otherwise has been a stellar employee.
These two items were focal points in the trial of Zimmerman, who was recently acquitted for the murder of 17-year-old Martin.
"His delivery of that message was completely insensitive not only to the people in the room, but to our community and our society. That is what encouraged us to act," Ivey said.
Wood faces a written reprimand. Ivey said he has already met with supervisors about the items he brought to the jail and apologized.
"He is going to attend a sensitivity training and move on," Ivey said.
Ivey said Wood decision reflected poorly on the sheriff department, and said he wants everyone to learn from his mistakes.
