(Scroll down for video) A woman who has lost part of her leg in a freak accident has built a prosthetic leg for herself out of Lego bricks.
Christina Stevens, 31, of St. Louis, Missouri, was involved in a terrible accident while changing the brakes on her car. Her foot had been crushed so badly that it had to be amputated below her knee.
Interestingly enough, Stevens is an occupational therapist, who has done a lot of research. She has worked with amputees and with people who use wheelchairs. “I think I have a unique perspective into all this because I've been on both sides of the therapeutic relationship,” Stevens said.
“I think it puts me in a unique position to offer some different ideas to people, who may be going through the same or similar things than me,” she added. The occupational therapist said she got the inspiration for the Lego leg from a colleague, who jokingly suggested it.
In the video below, Stevens is seen building a prosthetic leg out of Lego bricks, and then she takes a few steps with her finished product.
Stevens is not shy about her situation. She has been sharing her daily experiences on Facebook and YouTube, where she shares with her fans what it is like to live without a limb.
She also encourages other amputees from around the world to share their stories. On her YouTube channel, she has videos that explain how to walk with a prosthetic leg. She shares the frustration and pain of being without the limb, and the thrill of getting an amputee tattoo.
