Burning garbage container in Meah Shearim |
(Scroll down for video) Israel Police dispersed rioters in the Meah Shearim neighborhood of Jerusalem, who were setting garbage bins on fire, in order to protest the new draft law that will force ultra-Orthodox Jews to enlist in the Israeli Army, according to video uploaded to the internet.
The new draft law was recently approved to be brought to a final vote in the Knesset.
Posters in the Meah Shearim neighborhood called on people to demonstrate at Shabbat Square at 8:00 pm. The posters called the new draft law “a decree of annihilation of the Jews”.
Around 8:00 pm, several dozens showed up at Shabbat Square, and they began to riot.
During the demonstration, television reporters arrived at the scene to report on the demonstration.
Surprisingly, no journalists were expelled from the area, as is usually the case, and several radicalized ultra-Orthodox Jews even gave interviews to the so-called “Zionist TV stations.”
Rioters pushed garbage containers into the center of the road, blocked traffic and set the garbage bins on fire.
Firefighters extinguished the burning containers and police dispersed the rioters. No arrests have been made.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
