(Scroll down for video) A woman was arrested and charged with soliciting a murder related charges after being caught on video hiring a hitman to kill her husband, according to police reports in Michigan.
Michigan Police said that Julia Merfeld was secretly being recorded while discussing the murder of her husband with an undercover police officer posing as a murderer for hire.
The 21-year-old Muskegon, Michigan woman offered the police officer $50,000 of the $400,000 life insurance police of her husband, Jacob Merfeld, paid over several weeks. Make it look like a robbery, she suggested. It should be painless if possible, she said. She also asked the murderer to surprise her.
"The more surprised I am when it happens, the better," she said.
If possible, kill him outside of my house because it would be messy in the house, she said.
Merfeld’s coworker, Carlos Ramos, told police that Merfeld planned to hire a hitman to kill her husband after the woman talked about it at work. Ramos thought it was a joke at first and hoped that the issue would never come up again. When she continued to talk about the plan in more detail, Ramos made the decision to go to the police, who set up the sting operation.
"As terrible as it sounds, it is easier than divorcing him. I do not have to worry about the judgment of my family, I did not have to worry about breaking his heart," the woman said.
Merfeld pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder and is scheduled to be sentenced later this month. She is facing a minimum sentence of six years in jail. Surprisingly, Jacob Merfeld did not want his wife to go to jail at all.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
