A former popular television news anchor was arrested and charged with assault related charges after he strangled his wife, according to court proceedings in Connecticut.

Now, the man has pleaded guilty to lesser charges in a plea bargain agreement.
Connecticut prosecutors said that Rob Morrison pleaded guilty Wednesday to threatening and breach of peace charges arising from the incident earlier this year, during which he allegedly strangled his wife at his home in Darien, Connecticut.

As part of the plea agreement, the Superior Court in Stamford could remove Morrison’s charges from the public record if he completes two family violence programs. It takes about two years to complete these programs, his lawyer, Robert Skovgaard said.
Skovgaard said that Judge Gary White proposed the deal that will end the criminal prosecution of Morrison, 45.

"It's very rare that a defendant would plead guilty," Skovgaard said. "That said, Rob recognized the potential risks of going to trial, and most importantly, he realized that the extension of the case will not serve the interests of the Morrison family," he said.

Morrison is married to Ashley Morrison, also a television journalist on CBS Moneywatch. They have a young son.
After the incident, Morrison was fired from his position at CBS News.
