(Scroll down for video) Police officers rescued 27 girls who were living in inhumane conditions at a boarding school.
Poor Christian families were asked to send their children to the Grace Home Boarding School in Jaipur, India, where they were promised to receive food, education and shelter, but instead the children were abandoned.
Shockingly, there was no adult in charge. The girls were under supervision of a 14-year-old boy who was in charge of running the school.
The older children were left to care for the younger children.
They were not educated and did not have any classes.
Government official learned about the conditions of these poor children only after one child died in the facility.
29 girls ranging from the ages of 5 and 14, were found living in terrible conditions in a one bedroom rented home. The house has one toilet that was broken. There was rotten food in the kitchen and more than 500 empty liquor bottles, according to local press reports.
The investigation started after a child died and the Child Rights Commission was notified.
The agency conducted a police raid that rescued the girls. Officials learned that their was a similar facility which housed 15 young boys. They were also rescued by police.
The owner of Grace Home boarding school, Jacob John, was taken into custody.
The school was not registered with the government. It is still unclear how John funded the school, but brochures with images of smiling children were found. These brochures might have been sent overseas to solicit donations.
The source of funding is also being investigated by police.
