(Scroll down for video) A British member of parliament apologized after calling a female Israeli soldier “a bloody Jew” earlier this week.
Parliament member Patrick Mercer said: "I would like to apologize for any offense I have caused to all my friends in the Jewish community."
Mercer said he was "very sorry" after watching himself on TV making those comments.
While he said the leaders of the Jewish community had yet to contact him about the incident, he said that he had a great relationship with the community in recent years and had been in contact with Jewish friends who have been very supportive following last week's incident.
He also wrote a letter of apology to Rabbi Lord Sacks to express his remorse.
As we reported earlier, a United Kingdom parliament member is under fire after he was caught on video saying that a female Israeli soldier looks like a bloody Jew, according to video uploaded to the internet.
The former Conservative party Member of Parliament Patrick Mercer, who has now resigned from being the party’s whip following allegations of lobbying, was caught on camera expressing anti-Semitic and sexist comments about a female soldier in the Israel Defense Forces.
Watch below as Mercer describes his encounter with a female IDF soldier, and says of her: "You do not look like a soldier to me. You look like a bloody Jew."Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
