A man was arrested and charged with numerous charges after he led police on a high-speed chase on his way to a driving test, according to a statement released by police in England.

The man with a learner’s permit, who was involved in the police chase of up to 70 miles per hour, said he wanted to arrive on time to his driving test.

Mitchell Gough, of Gloucester, England was on his way to the testing center when he was chased by police for driving a stolen BMW.

The man was driving alone after his mother's car had broken down and she could not pick him up.
When police examined the vehicle plates, they realized that the tags were registered to Gough's father Fiat and not a BMW. No reasons were given for changing the plates.

When an officer asked him to open the door, he sped away, ignoring red lights, speeding 70 mile per hour in a 30 mile per hour zone, and driving on the wrong side of the road before crashing into a parked car.
The chase lasted eight minutes. After crashing, the father of one tried to flee the scene on foot but was captured.

The suspect’s attorney said: "He was very eager to take his test when he was arrested. He made a decision that was totally out-of-place. It was incomprehensible that he behaved in this manner."

Gough admitted to dangerous driving, failing to stop and related charges. He was given a suspended sentence of six months, received a ban from driving on the road for 30 months and was fined $1,800.
