A woman was arrested, charged and convicted after killing a Kiryas Joel sanitation worker, according to court proceedings in New York.
Now, Blanca Romano-Morales, 26, of Highland Mills, New York, was sentenced in an Orange County Court to 364 days in jail after being convicted for an hit-and-run accident that killed the sanitation worker in Kiryas Joel.
Anastacio Vasquez of Spring Valley, New York was crossing Satmar Drive in Kiryas Joel, New York while collecting garbage late last year when he was hit by a vehicle. Vasquez died at the scene.
Several months ago, New York State Police arrested Blanca Romano-Morales and charged her with leaving the scene of a fatal accident. She pleaded guilty in exchange for the negotiated sentence of 364 days in jail.
Judge Jeffrey Berry also said that Romano-Morales, who is in the country illegally, will be deported once she has served her sentence.
