Yakov Friedfertig after attempting suicide |
(Scroll down for video) An Orthodox Jewish man was arrested and charged with murder related charges after stabbing and killing his wife because she was casting evil spells on him, according to a statement released by the New York Police Department.
The man, whose wife’s stabbed body was found decomposing in their basement apartment in Brooklyn with a note saying: "I killed my wife, she was putting spells on me,” has been charged with murder in her death, police said.
Yakov Friedfertig, 62, was detained for questioning hours after police responded to an emergency call about a suspicious odor at their Brooklyn apartment. Police discovered the body of his 57-year-old wife, Chava Friedfertig Gefner in the Avenue N home in the Midwood section of Brooklyn. Friedfertig Gefner had been stabbed several times and also had a head injury.
When police responded, they found the body and the note. Neighbors told investigators that the couple had not been seen for weeks and that the husband had psychiatric problems. Police then found Friedfertig in the psychiatric ward of Kings County Hospital, where he had a broken neck and arm after attempting to commit suicide.
He was questioned and later arrested for murder and criminal weapons possession.
The neighbors told police that the couple have been together for about two years.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
