(Scroll down for video) A group of teenagers are called heroes after they helped save the lives of a family whose van had overturned.

Dressed in tuxedos and gowns, heading to their prom, 20 teenagers along with their limousine driver came to the rescue of a family after the family’s van overturned on a highway in Florida.

The well-dressed students managed to get seven passengers out of the van and get them help before they made their way to the prom, limo driver Danny Izzi said. The students were traveling on Interstate 595 to their prom at the Westin Hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach when the van, which was in front of the limo, began to swerve.

"The van hit the wall and flipped over, I was right behind the van," Izzi said. He slammed on the brakes and got out to help, the students followed and helped save the family. The limo driver along with the students managed to rescue the five adults, and two children from the van. The children are a 9-year-old and a 2-year-old.

“What a beautiful story, as young students partying in their limousine headed to their prom, took the time to help a suffering family, heartwarming indeed,” Elizabeth Jones, 32, of Miami, Florida told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the incident.

One of the children was not wearing a seatbelt, Sergeant Mark Wysocky of the Florida Highway Patrol said, and she along with the other passengers suffered minor injuries. When the ambulance took the victims to the hospital, the students continued the prom, arriving only 15 minutes late and a bit shaken.

The driver was charged with failure to use due care and with failure to use a child restraint, he said.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
