A thief collapsed and died while fleeing with a car he had just stolen, according to a statement released by police in Malaysia.

In an unusual turn of events, the car thief drove away with a seven-year-old child inside only to die a few miles away in Setapak.

The boy was safely reunited with his family after passersby who noticed him crying alone in the vehicle, turned him over to police.

The incident began at 7:00 am, when the child's mother, a 30-year-old teacher, was taking her two daughters to a childcare center in Taman Melati.
The mother accompanied her daughters to the center when the thief stole the car with the 7-year-old boy still inside.

"She left the child in the car with the engine running when the thief got into the car and drove away," police officer Datuk Ku Chin Wah said.

Police suspect that the thief was frightened because the child was crying continuously.
The thief stopped and fled on foot with a bag containing an undisclosed amount of cash belonging to the mother.
However, after a few steps, the thief collapsed and died.
Police later found his body on a road in Taman Setapak Indah, about 300 feet from the abandoned car.

“Seems like the thief faced divine punishment for his crime. I hope other thieves will learn from this that they could face sudden death when committing a crime,” Gloria Shaw, 34, of Portland, Maine told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the sudden death of the thief.

Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the body of the suspect, who had been arrested several times because of drug-related crimes, was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
