(Scroll down for video) Just after the recent successful Jerusalem marathon the city of Tel Aviv has suspended its own marathon due to record breaking heat, according to press reports in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The Tel Aviv Municipality announced Tuesday the city's annual marathon was postponed for a week due to unusually high temperatures expected on Friday.
However, other races, such as the half marathon, are still scheduled for Friday.
According to weather reports, temperatures in Tel Aviv on Friday is expected to rise to a sweltering 90 degrees, with 35 percent humidity.
The city said that it contemplated postponing all of the event, but said that such action could not be possible due to the visit of U.S. President Barack Obama to Israel next week.
About 35,000 runners were expected to take part in the marathon in Tel Aviv.
The municipality said that runners who were registered for the marathon, but do not want to participate next week, will be compensated.
In 2011, a 42-year-old runner died after suffering heat stroke during the 42 kilometer race. Fifteen runners were hospitalized with heat stroke and another 50 were treated for dehydration.
Recently, Jerusalem experienced a successful marathon.

The marathon is an annual event held in Jerusalem on March 1st. The marathon attracts thousands of people from around the world who participate in the marathon. About 20,000 people ran in the marathon.
The starting point of the marathon is at the Israeli parliament, Knesset, in the western part of the city.
There runners then head to the Givat Ram campus of the Hebrew University, they pass through different neighborhoods on their way to Hebrew University's Mount Scopus campus in East Jerusalem.
The route descends to the Old City, taking runners through the Jaffa Gate and the Armenian Quarter and outside Zion Gate, on their way to the Jerusalem Forest.
