A man was shot and killed by his wife while he taught her how to use a gun.
The Pennsylvania father of two died Saturday, when he showed his wife how to operate a semiautomatic pistol.
The couple has been drinking while their children ages 2, and 5-years-old, slept upstairs. The woman called police after she accidentally shot her husband.
"I shot him," Michele Wanko, 42, told Parkside police officer when authorities arrived at the home around 4:00 am.
Authorities found the husband, 43-year-old Michael Wanko, on the floor near the entrance, with a gunshot wound to the upper chest.
The couple had spent the night drinking vodka and lemonade when Michele asked her husband to teach her how to use a gun. They went down to the basement where Michael kept his guns in a safe.
"He took a number of handguns out and was showing her how the gun worked. He showed her how to take the magazine out and he showed her how to pull the slide back," Parkside police Chief John Egan said.
Michele took a gun, but when she pulled the slide back, the gun went off, hitting her husband in the chest. Michael was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Crozer-Chester Medical Center.
“Why is a mother of two young children up till 4:00 am drinking? She has a responsibility to care for them without being drunk or hung over. Sadly, her bad choices left her in trouble and her children without a father,” Marry Perez, 39, of Philadelphia, Pennsylavania told YourJewishNews.com after hearing about the unfortunate drunken gun lesson which led to the husband’s death.
Michele was charged with involuntary manslaughter, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. The children are staying with relatives.
