A woman was arrested and charged with criminal mischief related charges after she tried to prevent her car from being towed away, according to a statement released by the New Jersey State Police.

Police in New Jersey said they arrested the woman after she cut the cable from the tow truck in order to prevent her car from being repossessed.

Bridgeton Police Chief Mark Ott said an employee from Quick Towing was repossessing a Chrysler Pacifica 2004, near the Social Security office 12:15 am Monday morning when the car owner, Wanda Young, 52, tried to drive away with the car hooked to the tow truck.

Police said the woman tried to drive her car out three times, and during the third attempt the tow truck cable snapped, causing about $4,000 in damage to the truck.

Young was arrested shortly after police arrived and police said the Young was still driving with the broken section of the tow cable hooked to her car.

“I have to say that I feel bad for this woman. These tow trucks show up at the worst possible times and tow away cars. It was early morning, and I am sure the woman panicked at the thought of being left alone outside without her car. Tow truck drivers need to use common sense as well, before doing stupid things,” Susan Johnson, 33, of Fort Lee, New Jersey, told YourJewishNews.com after learning about Young.

Young was charged with criminal mischief and released.
