John Galliano |
(Scroll down for video) Jewish students are outraged after a school decided to hire anti-Semite fashion designer, John Galliano, to teach fashion design.
The students believe that the anti-Semitic comments made by John Galliano during a drunken tirade is enough to ban him from the classroom for life.
However, school administrators think otherwise.
The anti-Semitic tirade was so offensive, that Galliano, one of the most famous designers in the world became jobless.
"I love Hitler. Your parents would be ****ing gassed and ****ing dead," Galliano said during the now infamous diatribe, but the disgraced former head of the Christian Dior brand will soon be on the payroll, here in New York City, which is home to one of the world’s largest Jewish communities.
Parsons The New School for Design, has hired Galliano to teach student workshops, setting off a firestorm among Jewish students on campus.
"More than my heritage, it is disrespectful to Parsons and what we represent," Matt Weiss, who is a student at the school said.
On Tuesday, the union of Jewish students from the school started an online petition that as of Friday evening had more than 475 signatures.
"This was obviously done in order to push Jews out from the class at the New School. Nobody wants to take a class with a known anti-Semite," student union president Jennifer Kaplan said.
Kaplan said the move conflicts with one of the original missions of the university, which serves as a safe haven for Jewish intellectuals.
“What is the most troubling of this situation is the fact that the school leadership sees nothing wrong in hiring a man who said terrible things against Jews in the past. It is not like he is the last fashion designer in the world,” Lenny Wetzel, 22, of Queens New York told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the incident.
"John Galliano apologized for what he said. He has been studying and I live in a world where my Jewish values teach me to forgive," Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League said.Mobile video not loading? Click here to view
