A man who was enjoying a night out with his wife became the victim of a $10,000 robbery, according to police reports in Jerusalem, Israel.

The robbery occurred in the Romema neighborhood of Jerusalem, where an ultra-Orthodox Jewish foreign currency changer was robbed at gunpoint.

The foreign currency changer, Jacob K., was having dinner with his wife at the “Mifgash Al H’esh” restaurant located on Tuval Street in Jerusalem, when at one point he gave $10,000 to his wife. The man, then left the restaurant in order to purchase something next door.

After the couple completed their meal, they went toward their vehicle, which was parked outside of the restaurant. As the two made their way into their car two thieves suddenly appeared, and one put a gun to his head and demanded the money.

Two U.S. yeshiva students who were passing by the area managed to detain the robbers but then the getaway driver appeared and pepper sprayed the two students. The getaway driver fled along with the two thieves and the $10,000.

“I believe that foreign currency changers need to be armed all the time, as they constantly carry with them large amounts of cash,” Shimon Herzel, 21, of Jerusalem, Israel told YourJewishNews.com after learning about the robbery.

Police said that it appears that the two were following the couple for some time, and were waiting in the parking lot outside the restaurant. The couple did not need medical treatment.
